The Golden Door is dedicated to storytelling, social justice, education, and community. The Golden Door’s mission is to teach people how to tell powerful personal and communal stories of struggles for social justice for the purpose of educating youth, building community, and initiating change. The Golden Door seeks to work with students and educators, teaching them to use storytelling as a tool for learning to listen and effectively communicate. Committees include: Immigration and Refugees; Holocaust Education; and Women’s Rights.
The Golden Door brings storytellers and facilitators into middle and high school classrooms to teach about social justice issues. During a typical visit, a storyteller will tell a story and a facilitator will lead exercises that teach storytelling and coaching skills that students and teachers can continue to use after the visit. These skills will help participants create a safe, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic learning environment.
